Humble Area Chamber To Assume The New Name “Lake Houston Area Chamber” On January 1

The Lake Houston Area Chamber of Commerce will become the new name of the Humble Area Chamber of Commerce as of January 1, 2010.
The Humble Area Chamber Board of Directors approved the motion to re-name the Chamber at their August Board Meeting. The motion was overwhelmingly approved with a vote of 23-1.
According to Chamber Board Chairman, Jason Medley, the legal name of the Chamber as filed with the Texas Secretary of State will remain as is, but the Chamber will record an assumed name certificate, allowing it to conduct business under the new name.
Medley said the decision to change the name was made in order to better reflect the regional service area the Chamber currently embodies.
“The Chamber has made a name for itself at the regional level and we hope to continue that work,” Medley said. “Our membership is strong and vibrant and we are confident that this name change will better represent who we really are.”
Medley said when the Chamber was established in 1923, it solely represented the City of Humble. Today, the Chamber serves Humble, Kingwood, Atascocita (including the Beltway communities of Summerwood, Eagle Springs and Fall Creek), Spring and parts of East Montgomery County. He added that the proposal to re-name the Chamber had been discussed for more than a decade.
At the beginning of 2009, this issue was revisited by the Long Range Planning Task Force – a new task force Medley created at the beginning of his term in order to strategically plan for the future of the Chamber, with a concentrated focus on the next three to five years.
The Task Force determined the number one goal of the Chamber should be growth and increased membership. They set a goal of growing the organization from the 1,300 members they have today, to 2,000 members by 2012, to better mirror the growth of our service area. In order to accomplish this, the task force found it a priority to address the significant concern raised by many members of the organization about the Chamber’s ability to attract, retain and successfully represent the booming growth of their regional service area.
Medley said there was significant effort made behind the scenes by the appointed task force leading up to the name change including a survey to the entire membership, cost analysis, logistical studies and multiple discussions with groups and individuals that would be impacted by this change.
The Board also approved the tag-line “Established Humble, Texas 1923” to follow the new name. According to Medley the tag line was to pay respect to the city that founded the Chamber and still plays a vital role in its success.
The Chamber still has a little more than four months before they officially transition to their new name. Medley said the Long Range Planning Task Force is currently planning the transition before the big roll-out of their new name on January 1.
