George Bush Intercontinental Airport, located only ten minutes away, is a friend and neighbor. Houston’s three primary airports form one of the largest airport systems in the world - they also represent one of the local region’s strongest economic partners.
Poised for another 50 million-plus passengers this year, the Houston Airport System (HAS) is expanding its network across the globe and opening doors for local entrepreneurs. Its largest airport, George Bush Intercontinental, has recently added service by Emirates and Singapore Airlines, increasing the international reach for Houston. William P. Hobby Airport is anticipated
to reach an all time high of nearly 9 million passengers in 2008; and its general aviation airport, Ellington Airport, is one of the most active general aviation airports in the local region. In 2007, these three airports combined served a record-setting 52 million passengers. Not to mention
the more than 387,000 metric tons of air cargo that passed through Houston’s airports last year.
This tremendous growth has positioned the Houston Airport System as a leader in the global aviation market - HAS is the fourthlargest airport system in the United States and the sixth-largest in the world. Despite all these tremendous accolades, the international gateway has never forgotten its roots. HAS actively works with local organizations and chambers of commerce to help local entrepreneurs take advantage of the myriad of business opportunities available at its three airports. This year, the airport system celebrated its third-annual Business Opportunity Networking Fair at the Humble Civic Center and the results were phenomenal. Hundreds of attendees learned how to do business with HAS through a series of one-on-one sessions and seminars.
Each year more than $25 billion in positive economic impact is generated by the Houston
Airport System and more than 151,000 local jobs are supported by its three airports.
As new airlines, passengers and tenants continue to arrive at Houston’s airports, the
opportunities for small business owners to break into the global market will increase
significantly. For more information visit
