Monthly Meetings: 2nd Tuesday at 8:00 am
Purpose: Plan, develop, review and communicate to the Chamber membership the 2009 Texas legislative agenda with special emphasis on the following issues:
• Flood water and drainage issues.
• City of Houston/Harris & Montgomery County issues - including but not limited to, ordinance making authority for county commissioners to regulate fireworks.
• Greater restrictions or elimination of sexually-oriented businesses (SOB’s).
• Interstate Highway I-69.
• Trans Texas Corridor.
• Transportation issues.
• Educational issues including but not limited to issues of funding for fast growth ISD mandates.
• Insurance issues including but not limited to health care for small businesses.
• Tax issues.
• Immigration Issues.
• Host “Peace Officer/Firefighter/EMS of the Year” awards luncheon in April.
• Develop and maintain a major leadership role in the Alliance of North Houston Chambers (ANHOC).
• Work closely with the Transportation committee on legislative issues affecting both areas.
• Actively participate and assume a leadership role in any proposed regional issue/concept.
• Maintain an effective line of communication with all national, state and local elected officials to further the legislative agenda of the Lake Houston Area Chamber of Commerce. Invite a staff member from each office to attend our meetings.
