Governmental Affairs
 Chair: Mickey Kahn, Attorney
Vice Chair: Charles Cunningham, CenterPoint Energy
Monthly Meetings: 2nd Tuesday at 8:00 am
Purpose: Plan, develop, review and communicate to the Chamber membership both national issues and the 2011 Texas legislative agenda with special emphasis on the following issues:
o Flood water and drainage issues
o City of Houston/Harris & Montgomery County issues including but not limited to ordinance making authority for county commissioners.
o Greater restrictions or elimination of sexually-oriented businesses (SOB’s)
o Interstate Highway I-69
o Transportation issues
o Educational issues including, but not limited to, issues of funding for fast growth ISD mandates
o Insurance issues including but not limited to healthcare for small businesses
o Tax issues
o Immigration issues
Host “Peace Officer/Firefighter/EMS of the Year” Awards Luncheon in April.
Develop and maintain a major leadership role in the Alliance of North Houston Chambers (ANHOC).
Work closely with the Transportation Committee on legislative issues affecting both areas.
Actively participate and assume a leadership role in any proposed regional issue/concept.
Maintain an effective line of communication with all national, state and local elected officials to further the legislative agenda of the Lake Houston Area Chamber of Commerce. Invite a staff member from each office to attend our meetings.
